We study how synaptic proteins are organized at nanoscale level and how these nanoarchitecture impacts the synaptic function. Insight in these mechanisms will not only expand our understanding of normal brain function, but deliver critical information about the pathology of related neuronal diseases or mental disorders such as autism or schizophrenia. To achieve high temporal and spatial resolution, we use cutting-edge live-cell confocal and super-resolution imaging techniques combined with electrophysiology and genetic approaches. In particular, we exploit single-molecule localization microscopy, including MINFLUX, PALM, STORM and PAINT, that allow us to investigate protein organization within individual synapses at nanometer resolution.
